1. Everyone knows that tomatoes are fruit, but Kate Oliver reveals that strawberries, oranges, bananas and plums (and more) are not. Make sure you read her final footnote for even more shocking revelations.

    Wikipedia claims Tomatoes (“wolfpeach”) were “golden apples” (“pomo d’oro”) but in the Golden Apple article it claims “golden apples” are Oranges. It seems to be a language problem. The Greek for Orange translates to “golden apple” while the Italian for tomato (pomodoro) also means golden apple.

    Wikipedia also speaks of “golden apples” as apples when speaking of various mythologies (Greek, Roman, Christianity).

    The ancient Greeks apparently did not know of the tomato.
