Sundowners

Picked up an apple at work today and was pleasantly surprised. I was lucky and it had a sticker which I hadn’t eaten: the apple was a Sundowner. This is the trademarked name of a modern apple called the Cripps Red, which is sibling to the Cripps Pink, or Pink Lady. Both apples were originally bred by John Cripps in 1973 for the Western Australian government, which owns the rights to them. Their trademark names are managed by the Apple and Pear Australia Limited consortium.

The Sundowner has a longer storage life and a tarter taste than the Pink Lady.
