MIFF Day 2 and 3
Monday the 10th of August 2009
Andrew Lee was at the Melbourne International Film Festival:
Pen and I saw Sell Out! on Thursday. Satire aimed at realist indy filmmaking, the Malaysian government, identity politics, corporate culture and reality TV. Lots of fun.
Then we saw Bluebeard. A cool-headed telling of Charles Perrault’s Bluebeard, with female desire inserted.
I saw Silent Wedding on Friday. What seems like a fun but sleight slice-of-life in Stalin’s Romania, is made strange and horrifying by its frame story.
