Dragons

I’m reading Galapagos at the moment. It’s very refined Vonnegut. It seems very topical, talking about Vietnam and the workings of the global free market. Like most books discussing evolution, it heavily favours (anthropomorphised) selection. Thinking about the poor cheetah again, I realised that the X-Men mythos was most unusual in favouring (fantastic) mutation.

BTW
Have I looked for the books mentioned at the bottom of the page linked above? I have not.

Politics in the small
The Australian media talks to me and about me as if I were a citizen of the United States. This disenfranchised setting is a melancholy echo of my position in Australia.

I wanted Americans to ask who brings them terror daily. I wanted to ask who is working against their freedom. If I truly lived in the 51st state, or Australia was the megapower, would these questions have done any good?

Though at least in Oz we’re allowed to talk about the failure of the military-industrial complex. (Terror that might have genuinely saved American freedom and souls.)

But it’s too late. It’s November 7. It’s winter in Afghanistan.
